Amlapitta is one of the most common symptoms seen in the society. Modern era’s changing lifestyle along with changing food culture and also depending upon one's body constitution.

Ayurvedic Amlapitta Treatment


Amlapitta Treatment In Ayurveda means Amla implies sour, and Pitta implies heat. Also known as Hyperacidity. Amlapitta, therefore, is a condition characterized by an increase of sourness and heat in your body. The aggravated Pitta impairs the digestive fire, leading to the improper digestion of food and production of ama. Ama gets accumulated in the digestive channels and causes Amlapitta.

The Ayurvedic treatment of Amlapitta is focused on pacifying the aggravated Pitta Dosha. Cleansing herbs are also administered to eliminate all the toxins(Panchakarma) from the body and cleanse the channels. The automatically enhances the digestive fire, leading to better digestion.

Amlapitta Causes


The main cause of Amlapitta is the aggravation of Pitta Doshas in the body. Pitta is an Ayurvedic humour that symbolizes heat or fire. There are many Amlapitta causes for the aggravation of Pitta, main among them are: Eating foods that do not suit on the constitution or foods that should not be taken together such as milk and salt, milk and fish. Excessively sour or spicy foods and liquids, white sugar products and white flour products, smoking and excessive consumption of coffee, tea and alcohol, eating in a state of indigestion. Suppressing urges of urination and stool, sleeping in the daytime after meals, excessive stress, anger and hunger, staying awake late into the night, excessive exposure to sun and heat and gastro-duodenal ulcer.

The main key to treating Amlapitta is to improve digestion.

As the saying goes “Prevention is better than cure” it is better to avoid all the causative factors of amlapitta.

One should follow the meal times.

Avoid eating spicy foods, or foods containing the excess amount of garlic, salt, oil, chillies, etc. Very often.

Include liquids like lemon juice, kokam juice, sweet lime juice, pomegranate juice, amla juice. Shatavari kalpa mixed with the water. Medicated water with ushir or coriander seeds, or laja. Shadangodak (water medicated with must have, parpatak, Chandan, ushir, udichya & suntha).

Moramla, gulkand can be taken singly or along with milk gives good relief, dadimpak.
Vegetables like white pumpkin, bitter gourd, okra, all leafy vegetables can be eaten except methi which should be avoided.

Fruits like black grapes, pomegranate, sweet lime, fig, dry fig, black raisins.

Amlapitta Medicines


1. Avipattikar churna, Triphala churna – 1/4th tsp of churna should be taken with warm water at night.

2. Kamdugha rasa: 1 tab three times a day in case burning sensation is the prime symptom.

3. Sutshekhar rasa: 1 tab three times a day.

4. Laghu sutshekhar rasa: 1tab thrice a day.

5. Dry ginger powder 1/4th tsp, ghee 1tsp and 1 tsp sugar should be taken in the morning on an empty stomach.

6. Churnas like Shatavari churna, yastimadhu churna, sariva churna, vasa, amla churna, Chandan, Guduchi satwa, bhringa, dhamasa churna, musta, parpatak churna should be taken under consultation.

7. Chandanasav, ushirasav, abhayarishta, bhunimbadi kadha, amlapitta kadha, etc. should be taken with enough quantity of water after lunch and dinner.

8. Yashti ghrit, Shatavari ghrit also helps in certain cases.

9. Prawal panchamrit: 1 tab after lunch and 1 tab after dinner; especially in sour belchings, feeling of bloating, etc.

Under the proper guidance of the Ayurvedic physician. It is so simple to stay away from  ‘Amlapitta’ (Acidity) but only if proper care is taken.
