Amlapitta Treatment In Ayurveda means Amla implies sour, and Pitta implies heat. Also known as Hyperacidity. Amlapitta Causes


The main cause of Amlapitta is the aggravation of Pitta Doshas in the body. Pitta is an Ayurvedic humour that symbolizes heat or fire. There are many Amlapitta causes for the aggravation of Pitta, main among them are: Eating foods that do not suit on the constitution or foods that should not be taken together such as milk and salt, milk and fish. Excessively sour or spicy foods and liquids, white sugar products and white flour products, smoking and excessive consumption of coffee, tea and alcohol, eating in a state of indigestion. Suppressing urges of urination and stool, sleeping in the daytime after meals, excessive stress, anger and hunger, staying awake late into the night, excessive exposure to sun and heat and gastro-duodenal ulcer.

The main key to treating Amlapitta is to improve digestion.

As the saying goes “Prevention is better than cure” it is better to avoid all the causative factors of amlapitta.

One should follow the meal times.

Avoid eating spicy foods, or foods containing the excess amount of garlic, salt, oil, chillies, etc. Very often.

Include liquids like lemon juice, kokam juice, sweet lime juice, pomegranate juice, amla juice. Shatavari kalpa mixed with the water. Medicated water with ushir or coriander seeds, or laja. Shadangodak (water medicated with must have, parpatak, Chandan, ushir, udichya & suntha).

Moramla, gulkand can be taken singly or along with milk gives good relief, dadimpak.
Vegetables like white pumpkin, bitter gourd, okra, all leafy vegetables can be eaten except methi which should be avoided.

Fruits like black grapes, pomegranate, sweet lime, fig, dry fig, black raisins.

Amlapitta Medicines


1. Avipattikar churna, Triphala churna – 1/4th tsp of churna should be taken with warm water at night.

2. Kamdugha rasa: 1 tab three times a day in case burning sensation is the prime symptom.

3. Sutshekhar rasa: 1 tab three times a day.

4. Laghu sutshekhar rasa: 1tab thrice a day.

5. Dry ginger powder 1/4th tsp, ghee 1tsp and 1 tsp sugar should be taken in the morning on an empty stomach.

6. Churnas like Shatavari churna, yastimadhu churna, sariva churna, vasa, amla churna, Chandan, Guduchi satwa, bhringa, dhamasa churna, musta, parpatak churna should be taken under consultation.

7. Chandanasav, ushirasav, abhayarishta, bhunimbadi kadha, amlapitta kadha, etc. should be taken with enough quantity of water after lunch and dinner.

8. Yashti ghrit, Shatavari ghrit also helps in certain cases.

9. Prawal panchamrit: 1 tab after lunch and 1 tab after dinner; especially in sour belchings, feeling of bloating, etc.

1. Avoid excessively hot water for bathing instead use warm water.

2. Pamper your skin with a soothing oil massage before bath. It not only keeps skin smooth and healthy but also gives immense relaxation.

Make sure you leave the oil for at least for the 30mins before bathing. Use oils such as Coconut oil, sesame oil, olive oil or almond oil.

3. Milk and milk products, wheat, meat and poultry, eggs, soups, herbal tea, coconut, walnuts, soaked almonds, pistachios all types of seeds which contain natural oil.

Increased use of jaggery in the diet helps to balance vata. Preparations like ladoos of fenugreek seeds, edible gum, dry dates, cashews in ghee prove healthy during winter.

4. Daily Water intake should also be increased. Juicy fruits and vegetables like carrot, lemon, cucumber, etc. which has high water content should be consumed.

5. Exercise increases the blood circulation and thus reduces vitiated Vata, and thereby improves digestion and ultimately leaves your skin soft.

6. Avoid harsh soaps, Use soaps with the high content of natural oils and glycerin which are soft for the skin. You can also use gram flour with milk or rose water.

7. A mixture of lime juice and glycerine can be stored in a clean and airtight bottle, apply this mixture daily and leave it on for at least an hour.

8. Anuvasan Basti is one of the Panchakarma which serves as excellent internal and external oleation. Abhyanga and Sweden not only smoothens the skin but also relaxes the entire body.

9. Facial pack with herbs like Shatavari, Yashtimadhu, Rose petals, Anantamool, Nagarmotha, Amla, Aloe-Vera in milk or cream leaves a great moisturising effect. You can apply this pack once or twice a week.

10. Herbs like Amla, Aloe, Shunthi, Manjishtha, Anantamool, Triphala, Chandan, Shatavari, Ashwagandha, have gentle detoxifying properties and also helps to maintain perfect moisturising balance.

In the case obese person, toxins accumulate in Medovahi Srotas, thereby leading to an increase in the production of fat tissue. The Ayurvedic obesity Therapy begins with the pacification of Kapha Dosha. It can be done by eliminating Kapha-aggravating foods from the diet. Next, the therapy also focuses on the cleansing of the Medovahi channels through the cleansing herbs so that excess weight can be reduced.

3. Start with your head. Pour the small amount of oil on your hands and massage it into your scalp. Use the flat part of your hands, make circular strokes to cover the whole head.

4. Move to face and outer ears, remembering to apply the small amount of oil as you move from one portion of your body to the next.

5. Massage the front and back of your neck, and the top of your spine. At this point, you want to cover the rest of your body with the thin layer of oil to give maximum time for the oil to soak in.

Vigorously massage your arms, using a circular motion on your shoulders and elbows and long, back-and-forth strokes on your upper arms and forearms.

6. Now massage your chest and abdomen. Massage circular motion over your heart and abdomen. You can start in the lower right part of your abdomen and move circular toward the left lower part, to gently massage to intestines.

7. Massage your back and spine the best you can.

8. Massage your legs, using circular motions over your knees, hips, and ankles. Use long straight over your thighs and calves.

9. Finally, massage your bottoms of your feet. Use the palm of your hand to massage the soles vigorously.

10. Allow absorption for 20 minutes before a warm bath or shower.
